    Entered active service on June 23, 1943. Completed boot camp at Naval Training Station, Naval Operating Base, Norfolk, Virginia. Assigned to and served aboard the John C. Butler Class Destroyer Escort USS Raymond DE-341 and with Commander Destrostroyers, Pacific (COMDESPAC). Earned the Presidential Unit Citation with 1 star, Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with 4 bronze battle stars, WWII Victory Medal, and the Philippine Liberation Medal with 1 bronze battle star. Honorably discharged as a Fireman First Class on March 7, 1946 at the Naval Personnel Separation Center, USN Base Treasure Island, San Pedro, California.
