A 39-year-old former Clay City resident was shot and killed in an apparent robbery at 8:40 p.m. Sunday in Broward County, near Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Paul Ronald Hunley, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., died from bullet wounds in his chest and arm following the apparent robbery. He was found in the front seat of his car in a darkened field near the Parkway Middle School in an unincorporated area of Broward County.

The neighborhood was described as a "ghetto area" by a reporter for the Fort Lauderdale News and Sun-Sentinel. It was located about three miles from Mr. Hunley's middle class neighborhood home, the reporter said.

According to the reporter, Mr. Hunley had left his house to visit friends. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Hunley of Clay City, were visiting him at his Fort Lauderdale home at the time.

The newspaper account reported that Mr. Hunley's wallet had been scattered and his money was missing. He also had beating marks, indicating that he struggled with his assailant before he was shot.

Mr. Hunley had been employed as an interior decorator for Modernage in North Miami, Fla. Prior to that, he operated his own business, Interior Design by Paul Hunley.

Mr. Hunley's obituary appears on page 3.

According to the reporter, Fort Lauderdale Police are looking for a suspect, but no arrests have been made.

    Notes:

Ron, along with his wife, were a couple willing to share their faith in Jesus with others, offering prayer and comfort during the many years they hosted Bible studies in their home. He was a family man and loved having his kids and grandkids around. Fishing with his grandkids was one of his favorite pastimes and it made for some hilarious stories over the years. He enjoyed woodworking, car shows, a good nap and just tinkering around on any number of projects. Dad was dedicated to our mom, especially during the years her health was in decline. And he was with her daily during long hospital stays. He was always on a first name basis with the hospital staff and no matter what facility she was in, he always seemed to know where the coffee machine was located. He was always willing to help out family or friends and never knew a stranger. Even a trip to Walmart could take a while as he considered it a social activity. His sudden and unexpected passing coming only a month after losing Mom has left a huge hole in our hearts and the pain runs deep. But we know they will be watching and smiling over us from the balcony of Heaven as we carry on the traditions and values they instilled in us.
