    Entered active service as a draftee on November 15, 1944 at Chicago, Illinois. Attended basic training and qualified for the military occupational specialty (314) of Automotive Mechanic. Departed the Continental U.S. on June 21, 1945 bound for tthe Asiatic-Pacific Theater of Operations. Assigned to Company H, 32nd Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry 'California' Division and served with them through the end of the war and into the occupation of Japan. Earned the Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, WWII Victory Medal, Army of Occupation (Japan) Medal and the Philippine Liberation Medal. Honorably discharged as a Private First Class on October 19, 1946 at the Separation Center, Fort Sheridan, Illinois.

Completed his tour of duty engaged in training horses with the Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment of a unit in the territory of Hawaii. Honorably discharged as a Private First Class on January 12, 1947 at the Separation Center, Fort Sheridan, Illinois. Earned the WWII Victory Medal.

    Cathryn Marie Corry, 73, of Flora, IL passed away at 11:10 AM Thursday, November 26, 2009 at her home in Flora.

    She was born January 31, 1936 in Clay City, IL, the daughter of Robert H. & Edna O. (Bayler) Stanford. She married Charles L. "Skip" Corry on June 22, 1957 in Flora. He preceded her in death on March 19, 1989.

    Cathryn was devoted to her family throughout her life. She enjoyed spending time with family, friends, her Miniature Schnauzer "Katie", traveling, and watching the St. Louis Cardinals.

    She is survived by her daughters: Donna & Pat Corry of Flora; brother-in-law: Dean Corry of Flora; brother & sister-in-law: Gene & Thelma Corry of Flora; uncle & aunt: John D. & Dorothy Bayler of Fairfield; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 2 brothers (Curt & Willis Stanford), and a sister-in-law (Kay Corry).

    Funeral services will be held at 10 AM Monday (November 30, 2009) at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora with Pastor Bruce Horsley officiating.

    Burial will follow in Foster Hill (Mt. Zion) Cemetery, Clay City, IL. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM Sunday at Frank & Bright Funeral Home.

    Memorials may be given to Flora Public Library Endowment Fund, Fur A Good Paws, or Clay County Hospice.

    Cathryn married Corry, Charles L. 'Skip' on 12 Aug 1961 in Clay City, Clay County, Illinois. Charles (son of Corry, John Roy and MANN, Erma Maude) was born on 11 Oct 1931; died on 19 Mar 1989; was buried in Foster Hill Cemetery, Clay City, Clay County, Illinois. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
