John R. Foerster, 74, of Olney, died at 10:16 a.m. Tuesday, February 22, 2011, at his home.

Burial will be in Crest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery in rural Claremont with full military rites performed by Olney veterans.

Mr. Foerster was born May 5, 1936, the son of William H. and Grace V. (Patterson) Foerster. He married Winnie (Herdes) on August 28, 1959 at Glenwood Church. She survives.

He worked as a machine operator for Illinois Central Railroad. He was a member of Calhoun Christian Church.

Mr. Foerster is survived by his wife, Winnie Foerster, of Olney; son, John Brett Foerster and wife, Kasey, of Olney; son, Michael Dale Foerster, of Olney; son, Bart Alan Foerster, of Olney; sister, Pearl Anderson and husband, Jerry, of Olney; brother, Harold Lee Foerster and wife, Cindy, of Olney; sister, Frances Stoll, of Claremont; and brother, Robert Foerster and wife, Susan, of Olney.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William H. and Grace V. Foerster, and one brother, Raymond.

Harold L. Foerster Obituary
Harold L. Foerster, 85, of Olney, Illinois, passed away on Monday, April 22, 2024 at Helia Healthcare of Olney.



Harold was born February 22, 1939 in Olney, the son of William Henry Foerster and Grace V. (Patterson) Foerster. He married Cindy Galloway, and she survives.



Harold was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Olney as well as a Mason, and after he retired from the railroad, he drove the Senior Citizens bus and for Rides Mass Transit until he retired again. He was a wonderful storyteller and had a great sense of humor. He could make anyone laugh. Harold never met a stranger and would talk to anyone at length. He had countless friends, and loved and cared for any and all animals that would come along. Harold will be dearly missed by all.



Harold is survived by his wife, Cindy Foerster of Olney; daughter, Pam Carter of Olney, son, Charlie Foerster and wife Kristi of Charleston, IL, daughter, Heidi White and husband Thomas of St. Peters, MO; grandchildren, Floyd Carter, Ashby Leaf, Amber Elliott, Mariah White, and Ethan Foerster; great grandchildren, Cam Leaf, Alexia Emmett, Sophie Carter, Sydney Carter, Jenna Tonn, Konner Elliott, and Alice White; one great-great grandchild, Zydan Emmett; daughter-in-law, Julie Forester Lord, son-in-law, Jerry Leaf; sister, Frances "Toots" Stoll; several nieces and nephews; He is also survived by his beloved pets, Benji, Sassy Pants, and Missy Britches.



He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Harold Wayne Foerster, daughter, Millie Leaf; brothers, Raymond Foerster, John Foerster, Robert Foerster; sister, Pearl Anderson.



A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on April 26, 2024 at Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home in Olney, with a visitation beginning one-hour prior to service time at the funeral home. Masonic Rites will be held at the funeral home.



Interment will follow the service at St. Joseph Cemetery in Olney.



Memorials can be made to St. Joseph School Foundation Trust or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Bob was loved by everyone who knew him. He lived his life as a service to God through his selfless service to his community and his constant witness to all with whom he came in contact. Bob's heart went out to the youth of this community, and because of this, he is known to many as "Uncle Bob."

His adult life was made up of different phases of service, beginning with his service to his country during the Vietnam War, where he served as a United States Army Ranger from 1966-1969. Afterward, he used his G.I. Bill to begin studying to be a nurse at Olney Central College. However, God had other plans for his life.

Thus began his next phase of service as dispatcher (telecommunicator) for Olney Radio while he studied Criminal Justice at OCC and McKendree University. Upon completing his studies, he became a Police Officer, serving first at the Newton Police Department then coming to the Olney Police Department, where he served for 20 years from 1977-1997, retiring as Sergeant. The following year he began his first of two terms as Sheriff for Richland County, holding this office until 2006.
Through all of this, and until the day he died, he served on many boards, including the Police and Fire boards, Salvation Army, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and American Legion. He also did volunteer work for many charitable organizations such as The Master's Hands.

Bob loved to change lives and believed in the good in everyone. He did everything he could to show his support to active duty and veterans of our military. He faithfully corresponded with any and all inmates who sought his encouragement and guidance.

Bob Foerster was a loved and respected member of this community and his passing will continue to be felt by all who knew him.
