    Pearl Marie Weiler, 86, Clay City, died June 19, 1990 at Flora Care Center.

    Mrs. Weiler was born August 23, 1903, the daughter of John H. and Anna Mary Nagel Holman.

    She was a retired cook for the Clay City School District. She was a member of the Clay City United Methodist Church and the Flora Eastern Star.

    Surviving are two sons, Bill and Fred Weiler; one daughter, Anna Mary Carrington; one sister, Rosa Holman; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, one brother, and one daughter.

    Services were held at Hosselton Bookhout and Engelmeier Funeral Home in Clay City.

    Burial was in the Clay City Cemetery.

    PEKIN - William Hubert Holman, 85, of 2737 Village Court died at 2:15 p.m. Wednesday, March 23, 2005, at Pekin Manor.

    Born May 14, 1919, in Clay County to William Shannon and Rosa Christina Holman Holman, he married Eunice L. Aebischen on June 26, 1948, in St. Jacob. She died Oct. 3, 1983, in Peoria. He later married Marjorie Eileen Dunnington Fluegel on July 26, 1986, in Pekin. She survives.

    Also surviving are one son, William K. (and Amy); one stepson, Creston (and Susan) Fluegel; one stepdaughter, Cameron Godfrey; two sisters, Kathryn (and Ray) Crackel; and Ferne Barnhart; two grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; and one stepgreat-grandson.

    He was preceded in death by one brother.

    He was World War II and Korean War Army veteran with the rank of captain, serving in the European and Pacific theaters.

    He earned a bachelor's degree in mathematics from the University of Illinois in 1939. He also completed additional studies at Bradley University, Northwestern University, Illinois State University, DePauw University and the University of Illinois.

    He was a teacher and administrator at Pekin Community High School District 303 for 39 years, retiring in June 1978. In 1949, he became the boys' counselor and later the director of counselors. He also organized the first driver's education program at the school. In 1960, he was named administrative assistant to the superintendent, and, in 1965, was named assistant superintendent. He also served as principal and was named the superintendent in 1967.

    He was a member of the Illinois Association of School Administrators and the Illinois Retired Teachers Association, where he was a former member of its legislative committee.

    He was a member and past president of the Rotary Club of Pekin, where he served on the scholarship committee and was a Paul Harris Fellow. He had served as a member and past president of the Board of Directors of the United Way of Pekin and was a former member of the board of directors of the Pekin Area Chamber of Commerce and Junior Achievement of Central Illinois in Pekin from 1960 to 1977.

    He was a former member and past chairman of the Tazewell County Volunteer Court Counselor Program.

    He also was a member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 916 and was a former member of Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 1271.

    He served as a member and secretary of the Pekin Police and Fire Commission from 1979 to 1992 and was a former bailiff at the Tazewell County Courthouse.

    He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Pekin, where he was a member of United Methodist Men and served as an usher. He also served on various committees of the church including the finance and endowment committees.

    A memorial service will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at his church, where visitation will be from 10 to 11:15 a.m. The Rev. Gary Ford will officiate. Private burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery. Arrangements are by Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel.

    Memorials may be made to his church.

    Kathryn Crackel, 94, of Effingham, formerly of Clay City, passed away Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at the her home in Effingham.

    Kathryn was born February 10, 1921 in Clay City, the daughter of Shannon and Rosa Holman.

    She married Ray Crackel on April 20, 1943 in St. Charles, Missouri. He preceded her in death on June 11, 2012.

    Kathryn graduated from Clay City High School and became a beautician. She worked in Clay City until her husband, Ray, returned from WWII. Kathryn was active in community events throughout her life. She was a member of the Clay City United Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star.

    She is survived by her daughter, Susan Anselowitz of Seattle, WA; son, David Crackel of Effingham, IL; son, Richard Crackel and wife Johanna of Mattoon, IL; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, Leon and William Holman, and one sister, Ferne Barnhart.

    Wanda Ferne Barnhart, 88, of Owensboro passed away suddenly on Saturday, July 5, 2014, at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. She was born December 9, 1925 in Clay City, Illinois to the late William Shannon and Rosa Holman. She was a member of Settle Memorial Methodist Church, and retired as secretary for Mike Wells Architect at age 83. She was recently a volunteer at the Elizabeth Munday Center. Preceding her in death is her husband, Leslie A. "Barney" Barnhart, and granddaughter, Meredith Howell.

    Ferne was an amazing, loving, funny, stubborn, generous, spunky, hard working, card playing, sports loving, singing and bowling woman. She was loved by her family and many others beyond that. The highlight of her life was being able to take her whole family on an Alaskan cruise in 2006. She was a lifelong St. Louis Cardinal and Owensboro High School Red Devil fan. In addition to sports, she thoroughly enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandsons.

    Survivors include her children, James Holman (Sherry) Barnhart of Bloomington, IN, Deborah Lynn (John) Keelin of Madisonville, KY, Diana Lee Barnhart (Tibor Horvath) of Brentwood, CA, Amanda Howell (Tina Maloney) of Owensboro, KY, and Rebecca Jo Barnhart of Carlisle, England; grandchildren, Shanna (Brandon) Lahti, Mark (Abby) Keelin, Samantha Howell, Paul Barnhart, Holly Barnhart, Jeremy Kuzemchak, Andrea Horvath, and Forest Horvath; twin great grandsons, John Mark and Job Matthew Keelin; and a sister, Kathryn Crackel of Clay City, IL.

    Services are 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 9, 2014, at the Chapel of James H. Davis Funeral Home & Crematory in Owensboro. Burial will follow in Owensboro Memorial Gardens.

    Fred Eugene Weiler, age 91, of Flora, Illinois, and former Clay City resident, passed away Monday night, December 18, 2017, at his home.
    He was born August 23, 1926, in Clay City, to Eugene and Marie (Holman) Weiler. He was united in marriage to Audrey Nadine Bissey on March 8, 1946, in Clay City, and they have shared 71 anniversaries together.

    Fred was a farmer. He served in the Army Air Force during World War II, and was Past Commander of Clay City American Legion. He was also a member of Clay City United Methodist Church, a member and Past Master of the Flora Masonic Lodge, served on the Clay City School Board, and drove a school bus.

    Fred is survived by his wife: Audrey Weiler of Flora; children: Richard (Rebecca) Weiler of Durango, CO, Kathy (Mike) Kitley of Flora, and Teresa (Fred) Verner of Santa Fe, NM; 6 grandchildren: Jeff Weiler of Lodi, CA, Jamie (Andy) Myers of Flora, Troy (Amy) Kitley of Flora, Tracy (Abby) Kitley of Flora, Katelyn (Jacob) Shapiro of West Lafayette, IN, and Dr. Ryan (Dr. Kari) Verner of Houston, TX; 6 great-grandchildren: Mallory and Marli Myers, Emma, Halle and Landree Kitley, and Andrew Kitley; along with several nieces and nephews.

    He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother: Bill Weiler; and 2 sisters: Norma Cummins and Anna Mary Carrington.

    A funeral service for Fred Weiler will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 23, 2017, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. Interment will be in the Clay City Cemetery with military honors. A visitation will be held 4-7 p.m. Friday evening with a Masonic Service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

    Memorial donations in Fred’s memory may be given to Clay City United Methodist Church or Clay County Hospice.

    Military Service:
    Enlisted and entered active service on February 14, 1945 at Saint Louis, Missouri. Trained as a Basic Airman (military occupational specialty 521) and as an AP Mechanic at Amarillo Field, Texas. Served stateside until honorably discharged as a Private from the 3701st Army Air Forces Base Unit on November 10, 1945 at Sioux City, Iowa. Earned the American Campaign Medal, the WWII Victory Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal.

    Douglas E. Weiler, age 62, of Clay City, Illinois, passed away Saturday, January 2, 2016, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Indiana.

    Doug was born October 25, 1953, in Olney, the son of William E. “Bill” and Berneta (Lutz) Weiler. He married Ruth Ann Jones on March 1, 1980, in Clay City.

    Doug worked at NAL as a technician for over 28 years. Prior to that he drove a truck and worked at Ames Handle Factory.

    He enjoyed spending time outdoors, all types of hunting, and pursuing his photography passion, was owner of Country Images Photography. Doug was a trained weather spotter and would closely follow the weather. In the past, he liked to golf, ride motorcycles, and formerly was a Ham Radio Operator. He also served as a first responder and member of the Clay City Fire Department for 15 years. Doug was a member of National Wildlife Turkey Federation (NWTF) and Whitetails Unlimited. He loved and cherished the time spent with his grandchildren.

    Doug is survived by his wife: Ruth Ann Weiler; three children: Angela (Dustin) Noden, Amanda (David) Wilson, and Layton Weiler; his mother: Berneta Weiler; three grandchildren: Elliott Noden, Noelle Wilson, and Norah Wilson; three brothers: Alan (Doris) Weiler, Chris Weiler, and Mark (Joyce) Weiler; along with aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

    He was preceded in death by his father: William E. “Bill” Weiler; his father-in-law and mother-in-law: Paul and Sarah Jones; and niece: Andrea Weiler.

    The funeral service for Doug Weiler will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 6, 2016, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora.

    Interment will follow in the Clay City Cemetery.

    Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, January 5, 2016, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home.

    In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to Clay County Animal Rescue & Shelter (CCARS) or Fur A Good Paws.
