    Nancy (Ella) Earhart

    Nancy (Ella) Earhart, 96, of Sullivan, formerly of Clay City, died at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Mary's Hospital, Decatur.

    She was born in Clay County on Sept. 3, 1881. Her husband, Edgar, preceded her in death on Apr. 4, 1969.

    Surviving are two sons, Don of Mt. Zion, and Carroll of Sandborn, Ind.; and daughter, Mrs. Vera Ruyle of Martinsville.

    Funeral services officiated by Bro. Ketih Graham, will be at 3:30 p.m. Saturday in Carsascio Funeral Home, Clay City, with burial in Clay City Cemetery. Visitation is between 7 and 9 p.m. today (Friday).

    Preceding her in death were her parents, a brother, a sister, and one grandson.

    Funeral services were held at the Sailor Springs Christian church with burial in the Smith Cemetery.

No. 448; Petroleum Club of Olney; and Ancient Accepted Scottish Rites Valley of Southern Illinois.

    Survivors include two sons, Tom Fite III, Birmingham, Ala.; J. Michael Hunley, Vero Beach; a daughter, Mrs. Randy (Marianne) Ridgely, Parkersburg; four brothers; a sister; seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister.

    Entered active service as a draftee on April 26, 1944 at Fort Sheridan, Illinois. Completed basic training and qualified in the military occupational specialty of Heavy Truck Driver (931). Departed the Continental U.S. on December 10, 1944 bound for the European Theater of Operations. Assigned to and served with the 30th Detachment, Headquarters Special Troops, 2nd Army, in the Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe Campaigns. Earned the Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 3 bronze battle stars, and the WWII Victory Medal. Honorably discharged as a Private First Class on December 3, 1945 at the Separation Center, Camp Breckinridge, Kentucky.

    He was a retired heavy equipment operator. He was a member of Community Southern Baptist Church in Clay City and a member of Flora Masonic Lodge.

    Mr. Hunley is survived by his wife, Jo Hunley; son, Robert Gray; four grandchildren, Tracy Pearson, Lori Clark, Kelly Hildebrand, and Michael Peterson; six great-grandchildren, Andy Hildebrand, Kyle Pearson, Lindsay Pearson, Reed Clark, Avery Gardner and Grant Gardner; brother, Robert Hunley; and several nieces and nephews.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Edna Hunley; daughter, Rebecca; daughter, Patricia Ann; brother, Buck Hunley; brother, John Thomas Hunley; brother, Jack Hunley; sister, Evelyn Welch; and sister, Thelma Burkett.

    Memorials can be made to the Community Southern Baptist Church Building Fund.

    Funeral services were held at Community Southern Baptist Church in Clay City with Brother Dustin Belcher and Brother Charlie Allen presiding.

    Full military rites were conducted by the Clay City veterans.

    A Masonic Service was held at the funeral home.

    Military Service:
    Enlisted in the coast artillery corps and entered active service on March 16, 1946 at East Saint Louis, Illinois. Completed basic training and qualified in the military occupational specialty of Heavy Truck Driver (MOS 931). Assigned to and served with Battery B, 233rd Anti- Aircraft Artillery (Searchlight) Battalion. Honorably discharged as a Private at the convenience of the government on November 7, 1946 at the Separation Center, Fort Hood, Texas. Earned the WWII Victory Medal for his service during the period of eligibility.
