    He was born September 22, 1925 in Sailor Springs, IL on the family farm to Baldy & Josephine (Noll) Franklin. He married Faye Frank on December 12, 1947 in Kentucky.

    He worked from 1953-1975 at Halliburton, was co-owner of United Water Blasters until 1981, then was co-owner of Franklin Sandblasting until his retirement in 1996.

    Nolan served in the U.S. Army and was in the 83rd Infantry that fought through France, Belgium, and Luxenborg then into Germany. He was one of the first American soldiers to reach the Rhine River in Germany and received a Purple Heart, Bronze Star and 2 sets of Oak Leaf Clusters.

    He is survived by his wife: Faye Franklin; two sons: Dana Franklin and Lonnie Franklin; five grandchildren: Tonia Lamond, Mary Downen, Lonnie Franklin II, Julie Haupt, and Abigail Rotari; thirteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; a brother: Malbert Franklin; a sister: Norma Abbott.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers (Bill, Oris & Roy Franklin), and three sisters (Bernice Bridges, Alberta Anderson, & Hazel Hills).

    Funeral services were held at Frank & Bright Funeral Home with Pastor Brad Harris officiating.

    Burial was in Dillman Cemetery, Sailor Springs, with military honors.

    Visitation was at Frank & Bright Funeral Home.

    Memorials may be given to that of the donor's choice.

    Military Service:
    Entered active service as a draftee on December 21, 1943 at Fort Sheridan, Illinois. Completed basic training and qualified in the military occupational specialty of Rifleman (745). Departed the Continental U.S. on June 15, 1944 bound for the EuEuropean Theater of Operations. After D-Day, assigned to and fought with Company C, 329th Infantry Regiment, 83rd 'Thunderbolt' Infantry Division, through the Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe Campaigns. Wounded i in action and treated by the 99th General Hospital. Earned the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart Medal, Distinguished Unit Badge, Combat Infantryman Badge, Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with silver battle star and the WWII Victory Medal. Honorably discharged as a Private First Class on December 6, 1945 at The Separation Center, Camp Grant, Illinois.
