    MAMIE FRANCES TROBOUGH

    Mamie Frances Trobough, the first of six daughters born to William Thomas and Laura Bell (Campbell) Wells, was born in East St. Louis, Illinois on April 17, 1904, and passed away in Oxford, Nebraska on April 20, 1992, at the age of 88 years and 3 days.

    As an infant she moved with her parents to Clay City, Illinois where they lived for five years. In 1909, she moved with her parents and sister, Lucille, to Furnas County, Nebraska where she grew up and attended rural schools in the Spring Green area southwest of Beaver City.

    She was married to W. T. Hess and two children were born to this union, William Thomas and Bonnie Jean. They lived near Beaver City and at Ashland. Later, Mamie and her children lived in Beaver City and Oxford, where she worked for a number of years.

    In 1943, she was married to George Dewey Trobough and they lived in Oxford until 1957 at which time they moved to Bishop, Texas. In Bishop, they owned and operated a Dairy Queen. Dewey passed away March 6, 1966. Mamie returned to Oxford in 1969 where she spent the remainder of her life.

    Mamie loved to sew and crochet and do for her family and friends. Family and friends were very important to her. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Royal Neighbors of America.

    She is survived by one daughter, Bonnie Pierson and her husband, Bob, of Kyle, TX; one son, William Hess and his wife, Virginia, of San Jose, CA; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; three sisters: Lucille Quinn of Beaver City, NE, Florence Nichols of Napa, CA and Dorothy LaCroix and her husband, James, of Willis, TX; nieces, nephews and many friends.

    Additional survivor was Leora (Gibson) Weatherwax and her sons. She was a close friend and foster daughter for several years.

    She was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey Trobough in 1966; her parents: Tom Wells in 1937 and Laura Wells in 1972; and two sisters: Ada Wells in 1917 and Doris Wells in 1923.

    Funeral services were conducted from the Mitchell-Nelson Funeral Home in Oxford with Rev. Dallas Johnson officiating. Music was provided by Sharon Fletcher and Phyllis McInturf.

    Interment was in the Oxford Cemetery in Oxford.

    Notes:

    Lucille Quinn of Beaver City passed away Sunday, August 12, 2001, at Beaver City, Nebraska at the age of 93 years.

    Edna Lucille Quinn was born on January 31, 1908, at Clay City, Illinois, the daughter of William Thomas and Laura Bell (Campbell) Wells. She was the second in a family of six daughters: Mamie, Lucille, Florence, Ada, Doris and Dorothy.

    Lucille moved with her family to Furnas County, Nebraska in 1909. She grew up in the Spring Green area southwest of Beaver City where she attended District 3 and District 52 rural schools. After graduating from Beaver City High School in 1926, she taught school for several years at the West rural school south of Wauneta, at District 75 south of Holbrook and at Districts 92 and 97, both south of Beaver City. She also attended Kearney State Teachers College in 1930.

    She was united in marriage to Emery Allen Quinn on December 8, 1928, at Norton, Kansas. One daughter, Laura Jeanine, was born to this union 23 years later.

    Lucille and Emery also raised a foster child, Donna Kneedler, for 9 years.

    Emery and Lucille lived and farmed near Beaver City for 30 years, moving into town in 1959, although they continued to farm southwest of town. She worked for several years at the Mayo and Herren Nursing Homes, the Beaver City Manor and the local café. Emery passed away on June 26, 1976, and Lucille continued to live in Beaver City.

    Lucille enjoyed a wide variety of hobbies and interests, but spending time with family and friends brought her the greatest joy. Helping others was always an important part of her life. She enjoyed volunteering at the Beaver City Senior Center and Manor.

    She was a member of the First Christian Church in Beaver City. She also belonged to several clubs through the years.

    Survivors include a daughter, Jeanine Eiberger and her husband, Maury, of St. Paul; five grandchildren; one great-grandson; a foster daughter, Donna Meidinger and husband, Noel, of Kearney; six foster grandchildren and their families; one sister, Dorothy LaCroix and her husband, James, of Willis, Texas; several nieces, nephews and many friends.

    She was preceded in death by her husband, Emery Quinn; her parents, Tom and Laura Wells; and four sisters: Mamie Trobough, Florence Nichols, Ada Wells and Doris Wells.

    Funeral services were conducted from the First Christian Church in Beaver City, Nebraska on Thursday, August 16, 2001, at 2 p.m. with Pastor Wilmer Severns officiating. Music was provided by Douglas Garey, soloist, and LaCreta Fisher, organist.

    Active pallbearers were Richard Campbell, Michael Eiberger, Scott Eiberger, Alonzo Quinn, Gerald Quinn and James Stratton.

    Honorary pallbearers were Robert Brouhard, Lyndon Gregg, William Hess, James LaCroix, Daryl Werth and Jordan Werth.

    Interment was in the Oxford Cemetery at Oxford, Nebraska.

    Wenburg Funeral Home of Beaver City was in charge of arrangements.

    BABY WELLS

    Ada Bell Wells, youngest child of Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Wells, died September 11, 1917, aged 1 year, 5 months and 26 days. Short funeral services were held at the home 9 miles southwest of Beaver City on Tuesday evening at 7 o'clock, conducted by Walter Cornell, superintendent of the Spring Green Sunday School. The body was taken to Norton and from there to Clay City, Ill., where funeral services will be held today. Those making the trip were Mr. and Mrs. Wells and three daughters and Mr. Wells' father. (Note the three Wells daughters did not go and stayed with neighbors, the Frank Brouhard family).

    Notes:

    Doris Irene Wells, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Wells, was born at Beaver City, Nebr., March 29, 1918, and departed this life February 15, 1923, aged 4 years, 10 months and 17 days.

    Little Doris had been ill for about six weeks, but was not seriously so but a few days previous to her death. All that medical skill and loving hands could do was of no avail.

    Doris was a bright and winsome child and one who will be greatly missed by her loved ones of the family circle and of the community.

    She leaves her father, mother, and four sisters, Mrs. Wm. T. Hess and the Misses Lucille, Florence and Dorothy Wells, together with other relatives and a host of young friends. One sister preceded her to the great beyond.

    Funeral services were held at the home in Spring Green Precinct, Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. W. S. Porter, and interment was in Mount Hope Cemetery.
