    Dolly E. Albert, 84, formerly of 302 W. Green, Farmer City, died at 1:18 a.m. Thursday (July 4, 1996) at BroMenn Lifecare Center, Bloomington, where she had been a resident since December 1983. Her graveside service will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at Maple Grove cemetery, Farmer City, with the Rev. Dave Lester officiating. Visitation will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Calvert-Belangee-Bruce Funeral Home, Farmer City. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

    She was preceded in death by two brothers and five sisters.

    Mrs. Albert was born Aug. 11, 1908, in Clay City, a daughter of James A. and Harriett Franklin Rodgers. She married Stanley Albert July 20, 1928, in Pontiac. He died Sept. 18, 1971.

    She graduated from Mansfield High School and Champaign Commercial College, and was the former co-owner of Pre Fab Transit Co. in Farmer City.

    Malbert E. Franklin, 103, of Sailor Springs died 1 a.m. Saturday (Jan. 12, 2013) in Flora Care and Rehab Center.

    Malbert was born Feb. 11, 1909, the son of Baldy and Josephine Noll Franklin. He was a World War II Army veteran and a retired farmer. He was a member of the American Legion and affiliated with Sailor Springs Christian Church.

    Surviving is his sister, Norma Abbott and husband Harold of Sailor Springs.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers (Bill, Orris, Roy, and Nolan Franklin), and three sisters (Bernice Bridges, Alberta Anderson, & Hazel Hills).

    Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in Summers-Kistler Funeral Home, Clay City, with Pastor Tim Schnautz officiating.

    Visitation will be one hour before services.

    Burial will be in Dillman Cemetery, Sailor Springs, with military rites.

    Military Service:
    Entered active service as a draftee on March 10, 1942 at Scott Field, Illinois. Selected for the Medical Department, completed basic training and qualified in the military occupational specialty of Longshoreman (271). Departed the U.S. on July 20, 1942 bound for the Asiatic-Pacific Theater of Operations. Assigned to and served with the 311th General Hospital in the New Guinea, Papuan and Luzon Campaigns. Earned a Unit Citation and The Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with 3 bronze battle stars, WWII Victory Medal and the Philippine Liberation Medal with 1 bronze battle star. Honorably discharged as a Private First Class on December 3, 1945 at the Separation Center, Jefferson Barracks, Missouri.

    Hazel C. Franklin Hills, 89, of Clay City, formerly of Sailor Springs, died at 3:45 p.m. Wednesday, August 20, 2008, at Flora Healthcare Center in Flora.

    Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at Summers-Kistler Funeral Home in Clay City. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Rev. Darrel Brandon officiating. Burial will be in Dillman Cemetery in Sailor Springs.

    Mrs. Hills was born August 9, 1942, in Sailor Springs, the daughter of Baldy and Josephine (Noll) Franklin. She married Douglas B. Hills on June 21, 1942. He preceded her in death in 1973. She was also preceded in death by her close friend and companion, Lloyd C. "Smitty" Smith.

    She had worked as a key-punch operator at Roadmaster. She was a member of Clay City Christian Church and Sailor Springs American Legion Auxilliary.

    Mrs. Hills is survived by a daughter, Bea Jay Laughton, of Clay City; son-in-law, Wayne Harris, of Sailor Springs; brother, Malbert Franklin, of Flora; brother, Nolan Franklin, of Flora; sister, Norma Abbott, of Sailor Springs; and four grandchildren, Shana Puckett and her husband, Terry, Shaun Harris and his wife, Ray Lynn, Aaron Matthew Laughton, and Alan Michael Laughton.

    She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Bonnie Harris; three brothers, Orris C. Franklin, Bill Franklin and Roy Franklin; and two sisters, Bernice Bridges and Alberta Anderson.

    Norma Abbott, 93, of Flora, formerly of Sailor Springs, passed away Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at Clay County Hospital in Flora.

    Norma was born on December 2, 1922 in Sailor Springs, the daughter of Baldy and Josephine (Noll) Franklin. She married Harold Abbott on December 20, 1943. He preceded her in death on March 12, 2013.

    Norma was a full fledged homemaker who enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a lifetime member of the Sailor Springs Women's American Legion Auxiliary. Norma worked at the Sailor Springs grade school as a cook and at the garment factory in Clay City. Norma especially enjoyed her grandchildren.

    She is survived by her son, Steve (Carolyn) Abbott of Paris, IL; Son, James (Carol) Abbott of Mitchell, IN; Grandchildren, Ashley (Richard) Banks of Rogers, AR; Westley (Colleen) Abbott of Rogers, AR; Tony Burton, Olney, IL; and Christina Biggers of Morganfield, KY; and Great Grandchildren, Tate Abbott, Reese Abbott, Ripley Abbott, and Henry Banks.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers, William Franklin, Malbert Eugene Franklin, Orris C. Franklin, Roy C. Franklin, and James Nolan Franklin, and sisters, Bernice L. Bridges, Alberta E. Anderson, and Hazel C. Hills.

    He was born September 22, 1925 in Sailor Springs, IL on the family farm to Baldy & Josephine (Noll) Franklin. He married Faye Frank on December 12, 1947 in Kentucky.

    He worked from 1953-1975 at Halliburton, was co-owner of United Water Blasters until 1981, then was co-owner of Franklin Sandblasting until his retirement in 1996.

    Nolan served in the U.S. Army and was in the 83rd Infantry that fought through France, Belgium, and Luxenborg then into Germany. He was one of the first American soldiers to reach the Rhine River in Germany and received a Purple Heart, Bronze Star and 2 sets of Oak Leaf Clusters.

    He is survived by his wife: Faye Franklin; two sons: Dana Franklin and Lonnie Franklin; five grandchildren: Tonia Lamond, Mary Downen, Lonnie Franklin II, Julie Haupt, and Abigail Rotari; thirteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; a brother: Malbert Franklin; a sister: Norma Abbott.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers (Bill, Oris & Roy Franklin), and three sisters (Bernice Bridges, Alberta Anderson, & Hazel Hills).

    Funeral services were held at Frank & Bright Funeral Home with Pastor Brad Harris officiating.

    Burial was in Dillman Cemetery, Sailor Springs, with military honors.

    Visitation was at Frank & Bright Funeral Home.

    Memorials may be given to that of the donor's choice.

After D-Day, assigned to and fought with Company C, 329th Infantry Regiment, 83rd 'Thunderbolt' Infantry Division, through the Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe Campaigns. Wounded i in action and treated by the 99th General Hospital. Earned the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart Medal, Distinguished Unit Badge, Combat Infantryman Badge, Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with silver battle star and the WWII Victory Medal. Honorably discharged as a Private First Class on December 6, 1945 at The Separation Center, Camp Grant, Illinois.

    Mr. Franklin was a farmer and oil producer. He was an elder in the Clay City Christian Church. He was a member of the Clay City Lion's Club, clay County Farm Bureau and Petroleum Club in Olney.

    In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, Jack and Roger Franklin; three brothers, Henry, Paul, and Woodrow Franklin; two sisters, Iona Osborne and Geneveive Occhi; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

    He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

    Services were held at the Chapel of Hosselton Bookhout and Engelmeier Funeral Home in Clay City.

    She was born September 10, 1939, in Sailor Springs, the daughter of Roy C. and Doris E. (Hunley) Franklin. She was united in marriage to William “Bill” Hemphill on January 11, 1958, Flora, and together they shared 39 wedding anniversaries until his death May 18, 1997. She later remarried Clair R. Land and he preceded her in death.

    Dallas loved to travel and spend time at her home in Florida. She enjoyed dancing, playing Pinochle, golfing with friends, and spending time with her family. She was strong in her faith and belief in Christ.

    She is survived by three daughters: Diane Hemphill (Trudy Lambird) of Flora, Linda (Bill) Waller of Louisville, and Stacey (Jim) Earleywine of Flora; 4 grandchildren: Travis (Tyla) Knapp, Mac (Paige) Earleywine, Connor Earleywine, and Alexis Waller; 3 great-grandchildren: Adley, Jack, and Zuri, and an eagerly anticipated great-grandbaby on the way; 2 brothers: Gary “Butch” (Becky) Franklin of Clay City and R.C. (Joann) Franklin of Clay City; a brother-in-law: Don Cunningham of Olney; special companion: Bob Dow of Xenia; along with nieces, nephews, and friends.

    She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; and siblings: Floyd L. Franklin, Barbara Cunningham, and Mark B. Franklin.

    A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held at 8 p.m. Wednesday, January 5, 2022, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home with Jim Earleywine officiating.
