    Dorothy Bayler, 103 of Fairfield died at 11:36 AM, Sunday, January 14, 2018 at Hamilton Memorial Hospital. She was born on August 5, 1914 in Clay County, IL to George and Ida (Scrugham) Travis. In early years she had been a telephone operator before her and her husband John D. Bayler moved to their farm in 1947. Dorothy particularly enjoyed sewing and was a great bread maker. She also led a 4-H Club for many years and was a member of the First Christian Church in Fairfield.

    Edith M. Evans, 96, of Clay City, passed away on Thursday, February 27, 2014.

    Mrs. Evans was born on June 7, 1917 in Clay County, Illinois, the daughter of George L. Travis and Ida (Scrugham). She married Hubert E. Evans on April 9, 1939 at Clay City Christian Church. He preceded her in death on July 7, 2001.

    She was a member of Clay City United Methodist Church and was an avid quilter.

    Edith is survived by her daughter, Sandra K. Brooks and husband, Don of Dixon, KY; son, Ray Evans and wife, Jackie of Clay City; grandchildren, Sherri Buchanan and husband, Jamie of Madisonville, KY, Anthony Evans of Clay City, Tonia Duncan and husband, Greg of Dixon, KY, and Erica Paul and husband, Sam of Salem, IL; 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; sister, Dorothy Baylor of Fairfield, IL; brother, Leon Travis of Clay City; and several nieces and nephews.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother, and three sisters.

    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Clay County or Flora Rehab and Health Care Center.

    Funeral services will be Monday at 10 a.m. at Summers-Kistler Funeral Home. Visitation on Sunday evening 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Clay City Cemetery.

    George served in the U.S. Army in 1962 during the Cuban Missile Crisis while stationed in Everglades National Park. After his discharge in 1967, George and Nancy remained in South Florida until retiring and moving to Flora in 2002. After 30+ years working in electrical supply sales, he retired from McDonald Electrical Distributors in 2002. George had been a charter member and trustee of the Village United Methodist Church in North Lauderdale, Florida, and after returning to Illinois in retirement, he and Nancy became members of Flora First United Methodist Church. George enjoyed working on computers, spending time gardening, and attending family reunions. His faithful friend and companion was his dog, Bosco, and without a doubt, his grandkids were his true pride and joy.

    Military Service:
    George served in the U.S. Army in 1962 during the Cuban Missile Crisis while stationed in Everglades National Park.

    Funeral:
    A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 5, 2018, at Flora First United Methodist Church, with visitation beginning at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that memorial donations be given to either Clay County Cancer Support Group or Clay County Hospice. Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora assisted the family with arrangements.

    Joyce graduated from DePaul Hospital School of Nursing in St. Louis and started her career as a nurse at St. Joseph Hospital in St. Charles, MO. She later worked for Richland Memorial Hospital and Weber Clinic in Olney with a total of 40 years of service as a nurse. During her retirement she volunteered for the RMH Auxiliary. She took pride in her career as a nurse and was a resource for family during sickness, illness, and injury. Joyce enjoyed reading and making picture books of her family and trips to Florida. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchild, Leona.
