    Services for Maggie (Dot) Duff, 93, who died Sunday at the Olney Care Center, will be at the Hosselton-Bookhout-Engelemeir Funeral Home in Clay City with Rev. Jack Martin presiding.
    Burial is in Clay City Cemetery.

    She was born in Clay City Sept. 2, 1889 to John R. and Mary (Babbs) Raley. She married Robert Earl Duff April 27, 1913 in Clay City. He died Sept. 23, 1966.

    She was a member of the Clay City United Methodist Church, a 50-year member of the OES and a member of the Clay City Garden Club.

    She is survived by a son, Robert Jr., Cedar Rapids, Iowa; two daughters, Mrs. Monroe (Emma Jean) Lawson and Mrs. David (Helen) Taylor, both of Clay City; eight grandchildren and seven great-
    grandchildren.

    Emma Jean Lawson, 96, of Peoria and formerly of Clay City, died at 11:01 a.m. Saturday, April 30, 2011, at Apostolic Christian Skylines in Peoria.

    Mrs. Lawson was born December 29, 1914, in Clay City, the daughter of Robert Earl and Maggie (Raley) Duff. She married Monroe Arthur Lawson on September 20, 1936, in Murphysboro. He preceded her in death on March 31, 1976.

    She was an elementary school teacher. She was a member of Clay City United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, a 50-year member of Magnolia Chapter Order of the Eastern Star, American Legion Auxiliary #840, elected to Outstanding Teachers of America, Unit I Clay City Garden Club and United Methodist Women.

    Mrs. Lawson is survived by her daughter, Judy A. Partain and her husband Stan, of Virginia; daughter, Sharon K. Smith and her husband, Clark, of North Carolina; son, Gary D. Lawson and his wife, Cindy, of Illinois; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

    She was preceded in death by her husband, Monroe Arthur Lawson; father, Robert Earl Duff (9-26-1966); mother, Maggie "Dot" Duff (9-26-1982); sister, Helen Taylor (11-24-1982); and brother, Robert E. Duff Jr. (1-7-1996).

    Summers-Kistler Funeral Home in Clay City. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Pastor Mark Canada officiating. Burial will be in Clay City Cemetery.

    Helen Duff Taylor, 63, Clay City, died at 5 p.m. Tuesday in Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.

    Services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday in the Hosselton-Bookhout-Engelmeier Funeral Home in Clay City with Rev. Jack Martin and Rev. Fred Gordon, Sr. presiding. Burial will be in Clay City Cemetery. Memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society.

    Mrs. Taylor was born Dec. 7, 1918, in Clay City, the daughter of Robert Earl and Maggie (Raley) Duff. She married David Taylor June 4, 1939 in Flora and he survives.

    She was a bookkeeper assisting her husband in the insurance business in Flora; and was a member of the Clay City United Methodist Church.

    Other survivors include a son, John D., Springfield; a daughter, Mrs. James (Nancy) Stewart, Jacksonville, Fla. a brother, Robert Earl Duff, Cedar Rapids, Iowa;a sister, Mrs. Emma Jean Lawson, Clay City; and two granddaughters.

    She was preceded in death by her parents.

    Helen married Taylor, David Earl on 4 Jun 1939 in Flora, Clay County, Illinois. Assigned to and served with, in turn, Air Transport Squadrons 10, 9 and 12; and naval Air Station Olathe, Kansas. Earned the American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal and the WWII Victory Medal. Honorably discharged as an aviation radio technician first Class on April 8, 1946 at the Naval Personnel Separation Center, Great Lakes, Illinois.

    His obituary states he served from 1943 to 1946 during the Korean War, but those dates would have been for World War II. The Korean War was from 1950 to 1953. His military headstone clarifies that he served in both World War II and Korea.

    Sharon was born October 11, 1947, in Clay City, Illinois, 2nd born daughter to parents Monroe and Emma Jean Lawson, who proceeded her in death along with baby brother Lawson.

    On November 27, 1971, Sharon married Clark Smith in St Louis, Missouri and remained happily wed for over 50 years. Sharon is survived by Clark, their 2 children, son David (Margaret), daughter, Jennifer (Tim), 2 grandchildren Emma and Edwin of son David, sister Judy Partain (Stan) of Lexington, VA, and brother Gary Lawson (Claudia) of Peoria, Illinois. Also surviving are 4 nephews and 2 nieces.

    After graduating from Clay City Community High School in 1965, Sharon pursued her Nursing degree from Missouri Baptist College of Nursing, graduating in 1969. She worked as a nurse in hospitals across St Louis, MO, Chicago, IL and Richmond, VA. She and Clark relocated to Chapel Hill in 1998 and lived in the Governor’s Club. She continued her nursing career as Director of Nursing at Carolina Meadows from 2001 until 2014. In 2015, she began work at Right at Home as Director of Nursing and remained there until her retirement in 2021.

    Sharon was a fun-loving, loyal, affectionate, and affirming woman. She loved her husband, children, and grandchildren, and enjoyed serving people in her community. Her laughter and personality were contagious. Sharon was a beautiful, selfless woman who always put others’ needs before her own. She treated all of her patients with the utmost care and compassion as if they were her own family.

    Sharon was an avid University of North Carolina Tar Heels fan and could often be spotted in the stands routing on her favorite teams, especially her beloved men and women’s tennis teams. She had numerous friends in the athletic department and Ram’s Club. She will be greatly missed.

    A small service will be held at Chapel Hill Cemetery where her ashes will be scattered by immediate family. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made in Sharon’s honor to the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center by visiting the following website:

    Survivors include his parents of Cedar Rapids; two sisters, Marcia Gilchrist, Cupertino, Ca.; and Debra Duff, Cedar Rapids.

    He was preceded in death by a brother.

    Debra J. Duff, 53, of Cedar Rapids died unexpectedly Sunday September 30, 2012 at her home.

    A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday at St. Paul's United Methodist Church. Rev. Harlan Gillespie will officiate.

    Burial will be on Sunday at the Clay City Cemetery in Clay City, Illinois.

    Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Thursday.

    Survivors include her mother Betty Duff of Cedar Rapids; her sister Marci (Brian) Gilchrist of Ann Arbor, MI.; two nephews Thomas and Patrick as well as an aunt and several cousins. Deb will be missed by her faithful companion Mattie, her trusted black lab. Her father, and two brothers, Bob and Jeff preceded her in death.

    Deb was born on September 14, 1959 in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Robert and Betty Miller Duff.

    She graduated from Kennedy High School in 1977 where she lettered in four varsity sports: volleyball, basketball, track and field and softball. She was a member of the 1977 girl's basketball team which finished second in the state tournament. Deb had been inducted into the Kennedy Hall of Fame.

    Deb graduated from Upper Iowa University where she pursued a degree in physical education. She substitute taught K-12 grade in the Cedar Rapids and Linn Mar School System and coached at Kennedy and LaSalle High Schools.

    Deb began her association with Rockwell-Collins in Coralville working as a material distribution analyst. After several years she decided in 1993 to take a position with the fitness center in Cedar Rapids as a Fitness Specialist where she remained until her death. It is at the Rockwell-Collins Fitness Center she found her true passion; helping people to achieve at their best and encouraging them along the way.

    The memory of her smile brightens our days and reminds everyone what a wonderful person she was.

    In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be give to St. Paul's United Methodist Church or the Muscular Dystrophy Association in Deb's name.
