    Howard Graham Colclasure, age 101, of Farina, IL, passed away at 7:00 pmon Sunday, September 20, 2015, at Centralia Manor in Centralia, IL.

    He was born on Saturday, September 12, 1914 at home near Oskaloosa, IL. He graduated from Flora High School in 1933 and was a lifetime resident of Clay County.

    Howard will be remembered as a farmer, electrician and handyman by many. He was most proud of service to his country serving in World War II from 1942-1945, where he was a part of the 6th Cavalry serving in the European Campaign. He felt it an honor to serve and wore his World War II cap daily.

    He was a member of Bethel Christian Church of rural Louisville and was a long time member of the Clay County Fair board.

    Howard is survived by four nieces Margaret Moseley, Lorena (Duane) Pope, Barbara (Dale) Helpingstine, Mary Jo (Charles) Hughes; nephew, Harrison (Virginia) Colclasure, as well as many great nieces and nephews. He is also survived by a sister Pauline Stutzman.

    He was preceded in death by his parents Guy Colclasure and Grace Graham Colclasure, his wife Violet, sisters Helen Petty and Inez Blasgen and brother Wyett Colclasure.

    Services were held at J.W. Neal Funeral Home in Louisville, IL with Pastor Gary Kuhlig officiating.

    Burial followed at the Oskaloosa Cemetery, rural Louisville. Military rites accorded by the Louisville American Legion.

    Memorial contributions may be sent to Bethel Christian Church.

    Military Service:
    Entered active service as a draftee on February 3, 1942 at Scott Field, Illinois. Attended basic training and qualified for the military occupational specialty (014) of automotive mechanic. Assigned to the 6th Cavalry Regiment and departed the Continental U.S. on October 13, 1943 aboard the RMS Queen Elizabeth bound for Northern Ireland and the European Theater of Operations. After reorganization of the regiment, worked on jeeps, armored cars, half track 6x6 and 4x4 as a vehicle mechannic assigned to Reconnaissance Troop A, 6th Cavalry Squadron, 6th Cavalry Group. Entered the continent at Utah Beach and combat in July 1944 in vicinity of Sainte-Mere-Eglise and participated in the major battles of the Normandy, Northern Francee, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe Campaigns. Earned the Presidential Unit Citation, The Good Conduct Medal, The American Campaign Medal, The European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with five bronze battle stars and The WWII Victory Medal. Honorably discharged as a Technical Sergeant on November 25, 1945 at the Separation Center, Camp Grant, Illinois.
