    Robert Berlin Frank, 88, of Dover, N. H., formerly of Clay City, IL, died Aug. 3, 2004, at Dover Rehabilitation and Living Center in Dover. N. H. after a period of failing health.

    He was born March 16, 1916 in Clay City, the son of Sam & Katie Montgomery Frank. He married Florence Pridemore. She preceded him in death.

    He was a retired farmer and welder and a U. S. Army veteran.

    Survivors include a daughter, Karen Sue Hale; a son, Donald Frank; five sisters, Blanche Crouse, Deanne Moseley, Kathryn Milner, Faye Franklin, & Mary Lou Hulsey; seven grandchildren; several great grandchildren.

    Preceding him in death were his parents, wife, two sons, David and John; three sisters, Alberta, Bonnie, and Shirley, and three brothers Sam Jr., Galen, & Richard.

    A private graveside service was held at Smith Cemetery in Sailor Springs, IL.

    Bonnie E. Gill, 65, Clay City, died Wednesday at the Flora Care Center.

    Services will be at the Clay City Chapel of Hosselton, Bookhout, Engelmeier Funeral Home with the Rev. Author Phillips officiating. Burial will be in the Clay City Cemetery.

    Born in Clay County Aug. 6, 1917, she was the daughter of Sam and Katherine Montgomery Frank.

    She was united in marriage in Wayne County Sept. 16, 1934, with Gaylord Gill, who survives.

    Mrs. Gill was supervisor for the International Shoe Factory in Flora. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary at Sailor Springs and attended Mt. Zion church.

    Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Dale (Lois) Stanley, Clay City, Mrs. Jack (Doris) Poppe, Helena, Mont., and Mrs. Jim (Kaye) Cash, Bluford; two sons, Jim and Jerry Gill; two brothers, Berlin Frank, Phoenix, Ariz., and Sam Frank, Decatur; seven sisters; 13 grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.

    elma Blanche Crouse, 89, of Clay City, died at 1:43 a.m. Sunday, March 9, 2008, at Flora Gardens Care Center in Flora.

    Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday and from 10-11 a.m. Thursday at Summers-Kistler Funeral Home in Clay City. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with Pastor Jeremy Hostetler officiating. Burial will be in Smith Cemetery in rural Sailor Springs.

    Mrs. Crouse was born September 11, 1918, in Ottawa, the daughter of Samuel W. and Mary C. (Montgomery) Frank. She married Carl D. Crouse on March 5, 1939, in St. Charles, Mo. He preceded her in death on February 2, 1992.

    She was a homemaker and was a member of Sailor Springs Baptist Church.

    Mrs. Crouse is survived by four sisters, Kathryn Milner, of Sun City, Calif., Faye Franklin and her husband, Nolan, of Flora, Inez "Deanne" Moseley, of Clay City, and Mary Hulsey, of Sailor Springs; and several nieces and nephews.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers, Robert, Samuel Jr., Galen and Richard Frank, and sisters, Alberta Gumbel, Bonnie Gill and Shirley Schnautz.

    Memorials may be made to Sailor Springs Historic Foundation.

    Mr. Frank was born in Clay City on Dec. 4, 1922, son of Sam and Mary Catherine"Katie" Montgomery Frank Sr. He was a boilermaker at Superior Welding for 31 years, retiring in 1986. He was a World War II Air Force veteran and a life member of VFW Post 35224. He married Mary Colborn in 1947.

    Surviving are his wife; sons, George W. and Mike D. Frank; daughter, Mrs. Dennis (Marcie) Skelton; brother, Ben; sisters, Alberta Gumble Mrs. Carl (Blanche) Crouse; Mrs. Russell (Kathryn) Milner; Mrs. Joe (Mary Lou) Husley; Mrs. Norman (Nadine) Mosley, Shirley Schnautz; Mrs. Nolan (Faye) Franklin; grandchildren, Jim Frank; Katie Frank, Leilani Frank and Jennifer Frank.

    Two brothers and one sister preceded him in death.

    Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday in Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home.

    There will be no services. Memorials: donor's choice.

    Military Service:
    Entered active service as a draftee on February 7, 1945 at Chicago, Illinois. Selected for the army air Forces, completed basic training and qualified in the military occupational specialty of Supply Clerk (835). Departed the U.S. on august 10, 1945 bound for the Pacific Theater of Operations. Assigned to and served with 544th Base Headquarters and Air Base Squadron. Earned the Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal and the WWII Victory Medal. Honorably discharged as a Corporal on August 23, 1946 at the Separation Center, Fort Sheridan, Illinois.

    Faye was born August 6, 1928, in Clay County, IL, to Samuel & Katie (Montgomery) Frank. On December 12, 1947, she married Nolan Franklin in Kentucky.

    She and Nolan made their home in Clay County, where she was a homemaker and devoted mother.

    Mrs. Franklin is survived by two sons: Dana & wife Janet Franklin and Lonnie & wife Beverly Franklin; five grandchildren: Tonia Lamont, Mary Dowen, Lonnie Franklin II, Julie Haupt, Abigail Franklin; two sisters: Mary Hulsey and Nadine Moseley; thirteen great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.

    She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband: Nolan Franklin, who preceded her September 27, 2009; four brothers; Richard, Galen, Sam Jr. & Berlin Frank, and five sisters: Alberta Gumbel, Bonnie Gill, Blanche Crouse, Shirley Schnautz and Catherine Milner.

    Funeral services for Mrs. Franklin took place at Byrd & Kohn Funeral Home.

    Interment followed at Dillman Cemetery in Sailor Springs, Il.

    Lois Stanley, 85, of Clay City, Illinois passed away on Saturday, June 18, 2022 at St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham, Illinois.

    Lois was born June 29, 1936 in Flora, Illinois, the daughter of Gaylord A. Gill and Bonnie E. (Frank) Gill. She married Dale Eugene Stanley on December 19, 1954 in Clay City, Illinois.

    Lois was a secretary and bookkeeper at the Clay City Grade School and the Clay City Village Hall, until she retired. Lois enjoyed working in the yard and taking care of all her flowers and shrubs. She crocheted and made the most beautiful doilies. She also loved to cook and bake and no one left her house hungry. She and Dale enjoyed several winters in Okeechobee, FL. They also enjoyed camping with friends and family. After many years of having to listen to St. Louis Cardinals and Illini Basketball, she finally decided if you can't beat them, join them and became a huge fan and watched every game with Dale. She will be especially remembered for the love she had for her husband, children, and grandchildren.

    Lois is survived by her Husband of 67 years, Dale Eugene Stanley; Daughter, Dalena (Greg) Sapp of Dietrich, IL; Daughter, Diana (Rodney) Fish of Effingham, IL; Son, Brad Stanley of Columbia, IL; Grandchildren, Brent (Sharon) Edwards, Brigette (Danny) Ziadeh, Nathan Westergard, Aedan Stanley, Dylan Stanley; Great Grandchildren, Kiara Westergard and Tyler Edwards; Brothers, Jim Gill and Jerry (Martine) Gill; and Brother-in-law, Jim Cash; and several nieces and nephews.

    She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Doris Mae Poppe (Gill) and her husband Jack, and Marilyn Kaye Cash (Gill), and sister-in-law, Carolyn Gill.

    A visitation for Lois will be held on Wednesday, June 22, 2022, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home in Clay City.

    A funeral service for Lois will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, June 23, 2022 at Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home in Clay City, with Pastor Ron Payne officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service at Clay City Cemetery.

    Doris Mae Poppe, age 69, of Helena died from complication of leukemia early Saturday morning Sept. 26, 2009.

    A memorial service celebrating Doris' life will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29, at St. Paul's United Methodist Church. The Rev. Lyle Hamilton will preside in the service.

    Doris was born in Flora, Ill., Oct. 1, 1939, to Gaylord Andrew and Bonnie Eileen (Frank) Gill. She attended and graduated from Clay County High School in Clay City, Ill. Doris and Jack Poppe were married Nov. 29, 1957, in Shawneetown, Ky.

    Jack preceded her in death Dec. 16, 1992.

    Mom's Number One career in life was the many thankless years as the greatest housewife and mother - raising her three children (thanks, Mom). She worked outside the home at various jobs in her life including, a room attendant at the Coach House Motor Inn, McDonalds and as a security screener at the Helena Regional Airport.

    Doris enjoyed crocheting, camping at her beloved Vigilante Campground, being outdoors, gardening, playing board games and cards, especially Yatzee (roll another one Mom).

    In addition to her husband, Doris was preceded in death by her parents; father and mother-in-law, Lowell and Dorothy Poppe of Lewistown; brother-in-law, Norman Poppe of Helena; and infant daughter, Vonda Lynn Poppe.

    She is survived by her sons, John (Kathleen) Poppe of East Helena, Lowell (Tammy) Poppe of Helena; daughter, Beverly Poppe of Helena; granddaughter, Lindsay Eileen Poppe of Spokane, Wash.; grandson, Connor Patrick Poppe of Helena; brothers, James (Carolyn) Gill of Ridge Farm, Ill., Jerry (Martyne) Gill of Dana, Ind.; sisters, Lois (Dale) Stanley of Clay City, Ill., and Kaye (Jim) Cash of Bluford, Ill.; and four great-grandchildren, Savanah Mader, Max Mader, Trey and Mason Copeland.

    David Kent Frank, 70, of Evansville, IN, passed away Friday, March 31, 2017, at his home in Evansville. He was born March 9, 1947, in Clay City, IL, to the late Galen Frank and Inez (Holcomb) Neumann.

    He earned his Real Estate license in 1995 at the University of Evansville, and his Associates Degree at IECC. Dave served his country in the U.S. Army on the European front. He was an avid scuba diver and enjoyed fishing with his grandkids. You would often find Dave tinkering on his truck, boating and water skiing. He was also known for his love of animals. He enjoyed spending time with his family and loved joking with his grandkids, and he always looked forward to his daily lunches with his daughter, Brittany.

    Dave was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Tabitha Frank; sisters, Beverly and Debbie Frank; niece, Sondra Schnepper; and best friend, James Partridge.

    He is survived by sons, Kristo Altenon, Michael Frank (Kathy), Jason Frank; and daughters, Felicity Olivier (Tom) and Brittany Frank. Dave was married to Rose Dulaney of Flora, IL and later to his life-long companion, Crystal Frank. He is also survived by grandchildren, Trenton Frank, Garrett Frank, Vincent Frank, Blaise Roberts, Trishton Olivier, Aussie Olivier; great grandkids, Chandler and Blaise, Jr.; and brothers, Paul Neumann, Sam Frank, Bill Frank, Chris Frank, Richard Frank, Candra Frank; and sister, Naomi Frank Bangert.
