    LOUISVILLE - George L. Weidner, 85, Louisville, retired farmer, died Monday (Dec. 23, 2002).

    Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, Frank & Bright Funeral Home, Flora.

    Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday.

    Burial: Dillman Cemetery, Sailor Springs, with military rites.

    Memorials: donor's choice.

    Military Service:
    Entered active service as a draftee on October 30, 1941. Departed the Continental U.S. on May 11, 1942 bound for the European Theater of Operations. Saw combat as a rifleman in North Africa, the Sicilian Campaign and the Italian Campaign. Wounded in action near Sbeitla, Tunisia on February 15, 1943. Returned to the U.S. on May 30, 1944. Earned The Combat Infantryman Badge, The Purple Heart Medal and The European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with three bronze battle stars. Honorably discharged in poor health as a Sergeant from the station complement at Charleston, South Carolina on September 25, 1944.

    Notes:

    George Nelson Weidner, age 60, of Louisville, IL passed away on Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at his home in Louisville.

    He was born July 1, 1952 in Flora, IL to George L. and Bernette (Phillips) Weidner. He married Nancy Pierson on September 29, 1972 in Hoosier Prairie.

    Nelson was retired from family farming and enjoyed mushroom hunting and finding an opportunity to fish. He was a member of Flora Sons of American Legion and the VFW. Nelson will be remembered for his friendships and the times he enjoyed with family.

    He is survived by a daughter: Amanda Lynn Weidner; a son: George Matthew Weidner; a brother: Neil (Shannon) Weidner; 3 sisters: Rita Weidner, Marsha Blair, Cathi (Rick) Bailey; along with special nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

    He was preceded in death by his parents and a nephew (Donald Blair).

    The funeral service for Nelson Weidner was at the Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. Bural was in Dillman Cemetery, Sailor Springs.

    Memorials may be made to the Disabled American Veterans.
