    Maedine Butler, 77, resident of Charleston, MO died December 1, 2011 at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston, MO. She was born March 23, 1934 in New Madrid, MO to the late John and Elnora Butler Jones.

    She was a member of Mercy Seat Baptist Church where she served on the Mother’s Board and was a former usher.

    She attended Lincoln School in Charleston and retired from the Charleston R-1 School District in the Culinary Department.

    She is survived by four sons and four daughters-in-law, Willie and Denise Jarrett and Maurice and Wanda Jarrett of Charleston, David and Anita Butler-Jarrett of Joliet, IL and Malcomb and Traci Castro Jarrett of Pittsburg, PA, one daughter and one son-in-law, Gloria and Berry Taylor of Campbellsville, KY, two brothers Willie Jones of Chicago, IL and Tommy Jones of Charleston, two sisters Gearline Jones and Ezola Clark of Charleston, a grandson she raised, Hillus Butler of Joliet, IL, a nephew she was guardian to, Cornell T. Jones of Charleston, 16 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandson, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

    Friends may call Saturday, December 10, 2011 from 1:00 p.m. until the funeral hour of 2:00 p.m. at Mercy Seat Missionary Baptist Church in Charleston with Pastor Arthur Cassell officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery in Charleston.

    CHARLESTON, Mo. — Maurice Lionel “Markie D” Butler, 52, died Dec. 30, 2019, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

    Born March 12, 1967, in Charleston, son of the late Willie Jarrett and Maedine Butler, he was a 1985 graduate of Charleston Public Schools and attended Three Rivers College and Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, receiving a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice. He served as assistant camp director at the 4-H camp in Lake Wappapello. He was the co-founder of OAF social organization that promoted brotherhood and social justice awareness where he served as vice president and social events director. He attended Mercy Seat Missionary Baptist Church in Charleston. He was employed with Susanna Wesley Family Learning Center in Charleston where he supervised youth summer job programs and tutored students at the Bowden Center in Charleston. His last employment was with the Lincoln University Extension Charleston Outreach Center as a community outreach worker.

    On Jan. 11, 2013, he married LaWanda Moore, who survives of the home in Charleston.

    Other survivors include: one daughter, Makala Butler of Charleston; five brothers, Willie Jarrett and Chris Booker of Charleston, David Butler of Joliet, Illinois, Malcolm Jarrett of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Wilbur Moore of Las Vegas, Nevada; and five sisters, Gloria Taylor of Campbellville, Kentucky, Barbara Stovall and Angela Moore of Charleston, Sheila Brown of Davenport, Iowa, and Letitia Wortham of Mokena, Illinois.

    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents; and one brother, Curtis Neal.

    Visitation is from noon until service time at 1 p.m. Friday at the Bowden Center in Charleston with Arthur Cassell, pastor, officiating.

    Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery near Charleston with the Williams Funeral Home of Charleston in charge of arrangements.
