Entered active service as an Apprentice Seaman on February 20, 1946 at The Naval Recruiting Station, Springfield, Illinois. Completed boot camp at Naval Training Center, San Diego, California. Further trained and served at The Naval Hospital, same city. Honorably discharged as a Hospital Apprentice Second Class on June 18, 1946. Earned The WWII Victory Medal.
