    Bessie Jane Knowles, 98, of Flora, died Monday, January 12, 1998, at the Flora Health Care Center, Flora.

    Mrs. Knowles was born September 5, 1899, in Clay County, the daughter of Charles and Rose Cisne Ruger. She married John Knowles in 1923, he died in 1964.

    She was a past country grade school teacher, and a member of Mt. Zion United Brethern Church.

    Surviving are three son and daughters-in-law, Billy and Irma Knowles of Sailor Springs, Leonard and Doris Knowles of Mt. Carmel, James and Wilma Knowles of Mt. Juliet, TN; a sister, Dorothea Dunigan of Flora; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, and two sisters.

    Funeral services were held at Frank and Bright Funeral Home in Flora.

    Burial was in the Kneff Cemetery, rural Flora.

    Ron Hostettler officiated the services.

Earned The Good Conduct Medal, The American Campaign Medal, The European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 1 bronze battle star and the WWII Victory Medal. Honorably discharged as a Technician Fifth Grade from the Quartermaster Corps on 20 July 1946 at the Separation Center, Fort Sheridan, Illinois.

    Leonard C. Knowles, 88, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, passed away Friday, August 5, 2016 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, IN.

    Leonard was born the middle son of John and Besse (Ruger) Knowles on Tuesday, November 8, 1927, in Louisville, Illinois. Leonard proudly served in the United States Army from August 7, 1946 until December 5, 1954. He married his wife of 67 years, Doris Y. (Keck) Knowles on Sunday, December 5, 1948, at Sailor Springs Christian Church in Sailor Springs, Illinois.

    Leonard worked for Country Companies from 1960 through 1988 as an Agency Manager. He belonged to the Rotary Club and the MCHS Sports Boosters club, and was a member of the Masonic Lodge. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed attending Warrior basketball games and Mt. Carmel High School Football Games. He loved traveling with his wife, Doris. Leonard was a member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church in Mt. Carmel.

    Left to cherish his memories is his wife, Doris; one niece, Jean Ann Pelzer, sister-in-law, Wilma Knowles, and a cousin Ulanda Ruger Bryan.

    Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers, Billie H. Knowles of Sailor Springs, Illinois and James E. Knowles of Nashville, Tennessee.

    Visitation will be Monday August 8, 2016 from 4 to 7 pm in the chapel of Short Funeral Home.

    Funeral services will be Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at 10:30 am in the Chapel of Short Funeral Home with burial immediately following at the Floral Garden of Memories in Clay County.

    Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, Febuary 4, 2006 at Bond Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at Mt. Juliet Memorial Gardens.

    Frankie Allen Knowles, age 56 of Sailor Springs, IL, passed away on Sunday, October 9, 2016, at his home in Sailor Springs.

    He was born Monday, December 7, 1959 in Elmhurst, IL, the son of the late Billie Knowles and Irma (Wattles) Knowles.

    He was employed by United Air Lines as a cabin cleaner and was a member of the United State Air Force.

    Frankie is survived by son Daniel Knowles of California; sister, Jean Ann Pelzer of Griswold, IA; niece Barbara Lubkema of Lewis, IA; and nephew Ben Lubkeman of Albuquerque, NM; aunts Doris Knowles of Mt. Carmel, IL, Wilma Knowles of Columbia, TN.

    He was preceded in death by infant brothers, Larry and Lee Knowles.

    Arrangements will be handled by J.W. Neal Funeral Home, Louisville, IL where family with receive friends from 6:00pm to 7:00pm, Thursday, October 13, 2016. A memorial service will be held at 7:00 PM on Thursday at the funeral home.

    Interment will be at a later date in Ingraham Cemetery, Ingraham, IL.

    Memorial contributions may be sent to the donor's choice.
