    Edna Spurgeon, 75, wife of William Spurgeon of Route 1, Berne, died at 6:55 p.m. Thursday at Swiss Village. Death followed an illness of 2 ½ years and she had been bedfast the past year. Death is attributed to cancer. She had been in the nursing care unit of Swiss Village since last May.

    Harold was a former employee of Berne Furniture Co. and Smith Brothers of Berne. He served for 26 months in the U.S.Army as a medical corpsman and dental technician in Fort Riley, KS. and Camp Atterbury, IN. from 1945-51. He graduated from Bob Jones University, Greenville, SC. in 1959. and from Northern Arizona University, Flagstaff, AZ. 1969. Harold was a former teacher and principal of Hopi Mission School at Oraibi, AZ. for 12 years. He also held pastorates at Napier Mennonite Church of Tull's Hill at Mann's Choice, PA. and Casselton Mennonite Church in Casselton, ND. for 19 years. He was a member of the First Mennonite Church where was a Sunday School teacher and a member of the Chancel choir & Men's Chorus. More recently he was Pastor of Visitation at First Mennonite Church, Berne for 9 years until his retirement on April 30, 2003.

    Funeral:
    Funeral services are Saturday, October 25, 2014 at 10:30 am at the First Mennonite Church, Berne with visitation 1 hour prior to services. Visitation also on Friday, October 24 from 2 to 8 pm at the Yager-Kirchhofer Funeral Home. Officiating is Pastor Jerry Flueckiger and Pastor Jeff Linthicum. Burial is in the MRE Cemetery, Berne

    Died:
    The highway accident that took the life of Amy Hasler, 19, formerly of Noble, occurred last Friday, Aug. 6 as Miss Hasler and two other young women were on their Way to work in Ohio. All three were students at Cedarville College, Cedarville, Ohio, and worked from 7 p.m. to midnight at Kennedy's Grocery Store in Xenia, Ohio, less than ten miles from Cedarville.

    On Highway 42, about four miles from Xenia, their car. a 1964 Plymouth, was involved in a head-on collision with another vehicle. It was raining at the time, 6:55 p.m.

    Miss Hasler was transferred from the Green Memorial Hospital in Xenia, Ohio to the St. Elizabeth Hospital, Dayton, Ohio, where she passed away from her injuries on Monday. She had sustained a fractured skull and nose, multiple fractures of the jaw, a collapsed left lung and ruptured spleen.
    Her kidneys were donated for a transplant operation.

    Miss Hasler graduated from the 8th grade at Noble Grade School, attended two years of high school at Normal, Ill., attending Bob Jones University Academy in Greenville, S.C. her junior and senior years of high school and then her first two years of college at Bob Jones University. She would have been a junior this fall at Cedarville College, a Baptist Christian College. She was studying to be a missionary to Austria.
