    Shirley "Jiggs" Alderson, 81, of Potomac Park, Cumberland, Md. died Aug. 21, 2005 at Sacred Heart Hospital.

    Mr. Alderson was born Jan. 12, 1924 in Flora, IL, the son of Norman and Frances Lane Alderson. He married Margaret Fanning.

    He was employed with the B. & O. Railroad in Flora in 1941, and later retired from CSX, Cumberland, Md, in 1984, where he was an assistant superintendent of production.

    He was a U. S. Navy Veteran of World War II, a member of SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, the Cumberland Elks, and Cresaptown Knights of Columbus.

    Survivors include his wife; three daughters Shirley Marie Eden, Chris Auerbach, Gina Dopler; three sons, Patrick L., Rob, and N. Michael Alderson; two sisters, Wanda Staley and Wilma Williams; 22 grandchildren; one great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

    Mass of Christian burial was held at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church with burial in the church cemetery with military honors.

    Military Service:
    Enlisted in the Seabees and transferred to regular navy during boot camp. Stationed aboard repair ship in the Atlantic. Served mostly in the Caribbean.

    Notes:

    Wanda will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother who looked forward to opportunities to see her grandchildren and share in their band, choral, and theatre performances. She enjoyed visiting and talking with others, especially during frequent occasions to join friends at coffee spots where proud updates about the grandkids were commonly exchanged, or where she might reveal some of the most recent deals she discovered while watching QVC. Over the years, Wanda worked at the International Shoe Company, Sparton Manufacturing, Flora City Hall, Flora Savings & Loan, and Clay Medical Center, and she would often accompany Jim to Masonic and Shriner events.

    Wanda married Staley, James T. on 8 May 1952 in Flora, Clay County, Illinois. James was born on 27 Nov 1917; died on 28 Jan 2000; was buried in Elmwood Cemetery, Flora, Clay County, Illinois. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
