    John R. Lents, 78, of Clay City, died at 3:59 p.m. Monday, October 14, 2002, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.

    Mr. Lents was born July 15, 1924, in Vincennes, Ind., the son of Charles and Gertrude (Cole) Lents. He married Geneva Wease on May 28, 1958 in Clay County. He was a member of Clay City Christian Church.

    Survivors include his wife, Geneva Lents of Clay City; seven daughters and Sons-in-law, Rena and Don Thomas of Flora, Karen and Phillip Marlow of Dix, Carol and Ronald Raley of Flora, Donna Given of Mouldin, S.C., Noma and Bob Monical of Noble, and Terry and Dr. Geoffrey Jahan-tigh of Houston, Texas; one son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Tine Lents of Bridgeport; 29 grandchildren; 48 geat-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

    Preceding him in death were his parents, one step-son, Dale Eugene Lents, one brother, Earl Lents, and one sister, Pauline Weeks.

    Privae graveside services were held Tuesday, Oct. 15, at Clay City Cemetery, and Bro. Neal Kenley officiating. Summers Kistler Funeral Home in Clay City was in charge of arrangements.

    Rena M. Thomas, age 81, of Flora, Illinois, passed away Monday morning, August 16, 2021, at her home.

    She was born July 25, 1940, in Clay County, the daughter of Earl A. and Geneva Dell (Wease) Lents. In 1962, she married Don L. Thomas during a wedding ceremony in Shawneetown.

    Rena was a member of the Clay City High School Class of 1958. She was a founding employee of WNOI Radio, serving as News Director, and operated Able Cleaning Service. She will be most recently remembered for her work as resident columnist at the Hometown Journal and Clay County Republican Newspapers where she took readers on a journey of captivating historical and genealogical subjects by way of her weekly feature titled “Piecing Together The Past.” Rena was a member of Bethlehem Christian Church, The Clay County Genealogical Society, and the Sew Nifty Quilting Guild.

    Rena is survived by her husband: Don Thomas of Flora; 2 sons: Tony (Sherri) Thomas of Robinson and Troy (Sandy) Thomas of Flora; 2 grandsons: Zach (Jessica) Thomas and Brenden (Summer) Thomas; 1 great-grandson: Sean Weatherspoon; 1 great-granddaughter: Adalynn Thomas; 5 sisters: Karen (Phillip) Marlow, Carol (Ron) Raley, Donna Given, Cheryl Hampton, and Terry Lentz; 1 brother: Rick (Tina) Lents; and a brother-in-law: Bob Monical.

    She was preceded in death by her parents: Earl & Geneva Lents; her stepfather: John Lents; 1 brother: Dale E. Lents; and 1 sister: Noma Monical.

    A funeral ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. Friday, August 20, 2021, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora with Mark Luzadder officiating. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers or any gifts, the family prefers that memorial donations please be given to either Bethlehem Christian Church, Clay County Cancer Crusaders, or Clay County Hospice, and any of these will be accepted through the funeral home. He and another buddy were going over to another ship docked there to visit. The exact story never came out but Dale drowned in the Elizabethan Bay there. It was 6 days before they recovered his body. He was 20 years old. Foul play was suspected but never proven.

    Emily Tennille Parish, age 43, of Xenia, Illinois, passed away Thursday morning, January 19, 2023, at her home.

    She was born January 28, 1979, in Olney, the daughter of Richard and Mary Anne (Thompson) Lents. She was united in marriage to Rodney Ray Parish Jr. on July 7, 2007, at the Ridge Riders Club in Rinard and together they have shared 15 wedding anniversaries.

    Emily worked as a waitress at J.T.’s in Wayne City. She attended Bethlehem Christian Church and was baptized at Gunion Christian Church in Cisne. She enjoyed time spent camping, going on float trips, singing karaoke, and scrolling through Facebook trying to stay current on the most recent gossip. She was a lover of animals of all kinds, a clean freak, very particular about her hair and nails, and enjoyed reading crime drama. Emily was a fabulous cook, often making dishes to share with the ones that meant the most to her, her friends and family. She was always full of life and will be remembered for her ability to light up any room with her laughter and vivacious storytelling.

    She is survived by her husband: Rodney Parish of Xenia; mother: Mary Anne Pittman of Flora; father: Richard Lents of Bridgeport, son: Quaden Noblet of Xenia; a sister: Amy (Ryan) Keck of Olney; step-son: Justin Parish of Effingham; step-grandchildren: Jayden and Gavin Parish of Hord; stepfather: Bob Pittman of Rinard; a niece and nephew: Kamille and Kamden Keck of Olney; 3 half-sisters: Ashley Lackey of Bridgeport, Katrena of Bridgeport, and Cortney of Olney; several aunts and uncles; several cats; and her beloved dogs: Britches, Ariel, and Radar.

    She was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents; mother and father-in-law; and an aunt: Kathy Richardson.

    A funeral ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 24, 2023, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora with Ryan Keck officiating. Interment will follow in Powers Cemetery, Xenia. A visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Monday evening at the funeral home. Memorial donations are suggested to Fur a Good Paws and will be accepted through the funeral home.
