    Clayton Roy McDowell, 87, of West Salem, passed away Tuesday March 29, 2011 at his home.

    Visitation will be held from noon-2 p.m. Friday at Ingram Funeral Home in West Salem. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial with full military rites will be in Shiloh Cemetery.

    Clayton was born May 19, 1923 in West Salem to Emily (Robinson) and Clifton McDowell. He married Marjorie Over on June 28, 1947 in Golden Gate.

    He was a family man who loved his family. He was an avid horseman - training and raising horses - and a lover of dogs who enjoyed bird hunting and coon hunting. He truly was a "jack of all trades"...and master of many. He served in the Army and was a member of the 187th Paratrooper Division in World War II, stationed in Okinawa and occupied Japan.

    Clayton is survived by his wife, Marjorie, of West Salem; one daughter, Linda (Ed) Merrick of West Salem; two grandsons, Lewis (Kim) Merrick of West Salem and Clayton Merrick of Albion. He is also survived by one sister, Ruthie (Don) Parker of Mt. Carmel and one brother, Richard (Jeanette) McDowell of West Salem.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, Emily and Clifton McDowell; one brother, James McDowell; and one sister, Patsy Kitchene.

    James McDowell, 73, of West Salem, died at 5:55 p.m. Sunday, May 24, l998, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Evansville, Ind.

    Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Ingram Funeral Home in West Salem with Bro. Gary Hall officiating. Burial will be in the Moravian Cemetery in West Salem. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

    McDowell was born Dec. 21, 1924, in Edwards County, the son of Clifton and Emily (Robinson) McDowell. He married Katheryn Knust July 20, 1950, in Trenton, Ga.

    He retired as a well surveyor for Schumberger Well Service in 1996. He was a car salesman for 30 years. He was a member of the Moose in Albion and First Christian Church in West Salem.

    He is survived by his wife; one son, Jerry McDowell, of Coal City; one daughter, Kathy Schmidt, of West Salem; two brothers, Clayton McDowell and Richard McDowell, both of West Salem; one sister, Ruth Ann Parker, of Mt. Carmel; five grandchildren, Amy, Amber, Adam, Austin and Ashley; and one great-grandchild.

    He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Patsy Kitchene.

    Notes:

    Richard Eugene "Dick" McDowell, age 89 of West Salem, Illinois passed from this life to the next on February 22, 2017 at Rest Haven Manor in Albion, Illinois.

    Dick was born May 18, 1927 in West Salem to Clifton and Emily (Robinson) McDowell. He married Jeanette Miller on December 26, 1951 in West Salem, and she preceded him in death on January 20, 2015.

    He worked for the railroad, and later owned and operated McDowell's Grocery Store in West Salem. He was a member of the West Salem Masonic Lodge.

    Dick is survived by two sons: Terry and wife Geralyn McDowell of Sugar Grove, Illinois and Steve McDowell of West Salem; one sister, Ruth Ann Parker of Mt. Carmel, Illinois; four grandchildren: Elizabeth, John Allen, Rachel, and Rebecca; and four great-grandchildren: Aiden, Gavin, Olivia, and Connor.

    He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, two brothers: Clayton and James; sister Patsy Kitchene, and grandson James Andrew.

    A Celebration of Life service at Ingram Funeral Home in West Salem with burial to follow in Shiloh Cemetery, near Samsville.

    Notes:

    Patsy L. Kitchene, age 45, of Albion passed away 7:00 p.m. Friday, July 21, 1978 at her home following a lengthy illness with cancer.

    Funeral services were held Monday, July 24 from the chapel of Ingram Funeral Home in Albion, with Rev. Larry Bailey officiating and burial in Graceland Cemetery.

    She is survived by her husband, Bob of Albion; two sons, Tom of Cleveland, Tenn. and Tim of Albion; three grandchildren; three brothers, Jim, Clayton and Dick McDowell, all of West Salem; and one sister, Mrs. Ruth Ann Parker of Mt. Carmel.

    She was born November 22, 1932 in West Salem, the daughter of Clifton and Emily Robinson McDowell. She married Robert Kitchene on April 21, 1959 in Vienna, Illinois.

    She was a member of the Full Gospel Tabernacle in Mt.Carmel.
