Ruth Adelaide Hastings, 84, of rural Louisville, IL entered her heavenly home at 4:04 PM, Friday, April 30, 2010, at the age of 84 years 3 months and 26 days.
She was born northeast of Flora, IL on January 4, 1926 to Walter F. and Katie (Howell) Cox.
She married Robert L. Hastings on January 23, 1949. He survives along with their two sons: Jack and Warren Dale Hastings; two grandsons: Kevin L. and Travis W. Hastings; a brother: John S. Cox. Also surviving are six nieces, three nephews, several great-nieces and great-nephews, and a host of friends.
Mrs. Hastings was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters (Ruby E. Cox, Martha K. Jennings, and Mary L. Dennis), and a brother (Charles W. Cox).
Mrs. Hastings loved spending time with her family and helping others. Known for her cooking, and baking, especially her cinnamon rolls, she had recipes published in a national magazine, "Taste of Home". Also, she and her husband were known for their produce, which was shared with family, many neighbors, and friends. She was also a great seamstress and a crafter.
Prior to her marriage she was book keeper in Fairfield and then managed the Hornsby's 5&10 Cent Store in Flora. She was a member of the Louisville United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years and attended faithfully, including the Sunday before she suffered a stroke on early Monday morning that called her home. She was member of the Homemaker's Extension Association for 60 years, and at the time of her death she was serving her unit, M.F. & I., as president. She was member of the Clay County Farm Bureau Women's Committee and the Unit 1 Garden Club.
She also spent many hours with the American Red Cross blood drives as a volunteer and as a blood donor. She will be greatly missed.
Funeral services were held at Frank & Bright Funeral Home, Flora, with Rev. Brad Henson and Rev. Mark Nowakawski officiating.
The music was provided by Kevin and Travis Hastings.
Following the service she was laid to rest in Dillman Cemetery, Sailor Springs, IL.
