LaVera M. Correll, 90, of Newton, died at 3:55 a.m. Thursday, April 15, 2010, at Newton Rest Haven in Newton.
Mrs. Correll was born on May 11, 1919, in Jasper County, the daughter of Frank and Eleanor (Fehrenbacher) Geier. She married Eugene P. Correll on March 26, 1940, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Newton. He preceded her in death on February 10, 1968.
She was retired from Newton Rest Haven. She was a homemaker and a loving mother. She was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Newton. She enjoyed gardening, reading, quilting, fishing, hunting mushrooms and family and outdoor activities.
Mrs. Correll is survived by nine children, Janie (Gary) Wirrick, Judy Niklaus, Fred (Joyce) Correll, Chris (Linda) Correll,, Joe (Mary) Correll, Sandra Zumbahlen, Patrick (Sharon) Correll, Susan Ochs, and Scott (Gina) Correll; a brother, Franklin (Geneva) Geier; 28 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Viola Parker, Florence and Irene Geier, Mary Ellen Rauch; brothers, Alfred, George, Gerald and Arthur Neil Geier; daughter-in-law, Jane Correll; and sons-in-law Bob Clark, Sylvester Zumbahlen and Leo Ochs.
Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Sunday at the church.
Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Newton with Fr. Al Kemme officiating.
There will also be visitation a half hour before the mass at the church.
Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery in Wendelin.
