Will recorded Stokes County, North Carolina will book 1, page 14: abstract of his will, written 23 Nov 1788 and probated in December 1790. To his wife, Mary Margaretha, he gives furniture, stock, etc. To his son Andrew he gives the "Plantation I now live on". To son John he gives 100 acres on the waters of the Yadkin river adjacent to Henry Spoonhour and Adam Fiscus. He says his children Adam, Ann Mary, Catharina, Christina, Magdalena, Margaretha and Hannah have already received their shares. Signature is "Andrew x Folk" (or Fulk).

November 9, 1767, Yesterday Andreas Volz (Volk), Joseph Holder, Stauber, and their families, arrived from Pennsylvania.

July 23, 1768, For some days the weather has been very hot and oppressive, with frequent thunderstorms. As Andreas Volk and his wife were approaching Bethania there was a sharp clap of thunder, the horse reared, the girth broke, and the saddle and Volk fell one way, and his wife fell the other. Neither was hurt.

December 30, 1768 Benjamin Leinbach came to Br. Graff and announced his engagement to Andreas Volk's daughter, Christine, and asked for the publication of the Banns, and that we would marry him. For this latter he was referred to Br. Loesch as Justice of the Peace; the Banns can be published by Br. Bachhoff as Public Reader and Clerk of Dobbs Parish.

December 24, 1770, In the evening the congregation, including the children, rejoiced over the Incarnation of our God. In the first service, at six o'clock, Christmas hymns were sung, and the Christmas story was told to the children. After half an hour's intermission there was Love-feast, the story of the Birth of the Saviour was read from the Bible, and hymns were sung to Br. Volk's violin accompaniment. Then honey-cakes and verses were distributed, and the service closed with earnest prayer. The children were full of wonder and joy, it being the first time they had attended such a service.

May 20, 1772. Andreas Volk and six of his neighbors from the New Garden Settlement have been to the Allimance, where the battle with the Regulators was fought last year, and have secured 3,000 lbs. of flour, at 15 shillings per 100 lbs.

May 27, 1772, Andreas Volk was given a Certificate which frees him from attending Muster. A number have been issued this year, as the Captains are insisting on it in their districts.

September 8, 1778, Br. Bagge has again begun work on the well on his building lot, and had some rock blasted out by Andreas Volk.

January 10, 1780, Andreas Volck came for me, and I rode with him to the home of Heinrich Demuth, where I baptized Demuth's twins, George and Andreas, and little Anna Catharina Erny.

October 9, 1780, Andreas Volk's son came for the doctor for the brother-in-law Johanna Krause, who was shot in the leg yesterday while standing guard at Richmond, which was again visited by a strong party of Tories under Gideon Wright. The bullet had remained in his limb; Joseph Dixon was sent to bind up the wound. The Tories had expressed sympathy for the injured man, saying the ball had not been meant for him but for someone else, and so on. What consequences this may have remains to be seen.

April 10, 1786. Brother Beck gave in the names of the friends near Bethania who wish to be received into the Society, namely, John and Anna Maria Krause and their two daughters, Margaretha and Maria; Johann and Maria Volk; Jacob and Johanna Volz; and the unmarried Andreas Volk.

August 17, 1790, Young Andreas Volck brought word that his father passed away peacefully last evening.

    Notes:

iography of Henry W Fulk taken from "Fact and Folklore of Owen County" by Dixie Kline:
"Henry W. Fulk was born in Stokes county, North Carolina March 6, 1796. At the age of nine, his father removed to Sarah County. His father then swapped for a farm some distance from this but in the same State. His father was a cooper by trade and not getting along very well financially; at age 17 he (his father) hired him to Nathan Haynes, proprietor of an iron works, at six dollars a month, worked there four years hauling coal and ore and was out many nights until midnight.
At the expiration of this time, a family from his neighborhood moved to central Tennessee and he went with them to drive a team, for one dollar a day.
He then hired in Tennessee to work on a farm at ten dollars a month. In the Fall, he hired to a man at $15 a month to assist in distilling the ardent spirits and worked 18 months. He says the whisky he made was first class, unlike the foul stuff of today which is a dead shot 40 yards.
He then went back to his former employer in Tennessee and cropped with him one summer.
In 1820, he bought a horse, saddle and bridle and rode back to North Carolina. On his way, crossed the Blue Ridge Mountains and traveled often a day without seeing a house.
When he reached his destination, he went to see his sweetheart, Mary Shore, who was living in Stokes county. They were married January 13, 1820. He then bought 55 acres of land in the woods, built a house on it and made considerable improvements, clearing 30 acres and putting it under fence.
In 1830, he sold his farm to his brother-in-law, bought a wagon and team and started for Indiana; at this time his family consisted of six in all. They were 24 days on the road and had some difficulty in crossing the Blue Ridge, Chestnut Ridge, Log and Cumberland Mountains.
They arrived in Owen county in the Slough settlement; he then settled on Congress lands, built house and barn and cleared 30 acres, and then -- yes he was -- "entered out". (NOTE: this means he had been squatting on Federal land when it was purchased by someone else, so he was forced to leave.)
He went to the northern part of Jefferson Township and again settled on Congress lands; he borrowed money from Isaac Westfall to enter 40 acres, stayed there until 1842 when he sold to Anderson Fry. Then he bought 80 acres in Lafayette Township, set in the woods, so readers can see he opened four farms.
In 1853, he had lung fever and was unable to work several years so deeded his farm to his son Jacob Fulk. He took a lease on Abram Kaufman's place for five years. After his lease was out, he made a sale and came to Marshall county, Iowa.
In 1866, he lost his companion to cancer and lived single for two years. He married a second time to Pernelli [Penelope] Franklin, lived with her two years and two months and is now living with his son-in-law, Solomon Arney.
Mr. Fulk is the father of nine children: Nancy, Elizabeth, John L., Henry P., Mary, Jacob, Louisa, Lucinda and Francis M.
All the boys are farmers, three are living in Owen county, two in Marshall county and one in Crawford county, Iowa.
Three of his sons served in the late Rebellion (Civil War), one losing his life in the battle of Kennesaw Mountain, Georgia.
He is now 78 years old and is white as the delicate snow. He has belonged to the Christian Church 42 years.”
