On Veterans' Day, 2005, the city of Flora, Illinois dedicated a memorial to all known Clay County, Illinois World War II Veterans.
Located on the south side of the city library, this is a copy of the brochure honoring that event.

Notes - Beryle Pittman, 70, Olney, IL, died Wednesday, February 7, 1990, in Gulf Coast Hospital, Panama City, FL.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at Zirkle Funeral Chapel, Olney, with pastor Bob Logan officiating. Burial will be in Crest Haven Memorial Park with full military graveside rites.
Mr. Pittman was born September 19, 1919 at Rinard, the son of Oscar and Mary (Simmons) Pittman. He married Myra Hanes on October 10, 1948 in Henderson, KY and she survives.
He retired after 30 years as a postal clerk in Olney and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Olney. He was also a member of Richland American Legion Post No. 30, Olney Elks Lodge No. 926 BPOE. He was a 4 1/2 year Army veteran, having served at Guadalcanal.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Myra, are one son Robert Pittman, Fairfield, Ohio; one sister, Freida Mae Miller, Arcadia, FL; a sister-in-law Carrie Pittman, St. Petersburg, FL; two brothers-in-law, Vernon Hanes, Flora and Kenneth Hanes, Olney; two grandsons, several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Betty Anderson, two brothers, Paul Maynard Pittman and Leo Pittman and five grandchildren.
