- Inducted, discharged and enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve on 15 November 1943 at DHIRS, Charleston, West Virginia. Qualified as a rifle marksman and trained as a guard patrolman (special military qualification). Served with Headquarters Company of The Marine Island Command and participated in the battles at Tinian and Guam including duty as a half-track machine gunner and Japanese prisoners of war guard. Seriously injured in a jeep accident on Guam. Returned stateside for treatment and convalescence before being honorably discharged with a disability certificate as a Corporal on 4 June, 1946 from Casual Company, Marine Barracks, Naval Hospital, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Earned The Good Conduct Medal, The American Campaign Medal, The Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal and The WWII Victory Medal.
