Text | Hi Carl, Yes, I do have this Census record. Richard M. Pierce, Sr., is the second husband of Louvina (Lavina, I have seen her name spelled many different ways, Louvina, LaVina, Lavina, Vivian, Vian, just to name a few, lol). Louvina is the mother of my Claibourn born 1835 (also seen spelled many different ways), and his siblings Henry born 1827, Elizabeth born 1832, James born 1837, and Mary born 1838. Then she and Richard had 3 children. Richard M. Pierce Jr., born 1848, Naomi bborn 1849, and Elijah born 1853, who of course are half-siblings to my Claibourn Nash/Mash. I am trying to find out the name of her first husband "Unknown" NASH/MASH. We grew up believing that our surname was NASH, however if you notice MASH is what is on the US Census Records for 1850 (and what has also been listed on the 1840, 1830, 1820, 1810 and 1800). This has been a very hard family to trace. I have even seen them listed as NANCE in the 1870 US Census Records in Menard Countyy, Illinois. I know that our NASH/MASH family migrated from North Carolina, into Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois (Clay,Richland and Montgomery Counties). I am sure that there are 3 lines and possibly 4 line, who I believe are all brothers. They arre "UNKNOWN" NASH/MASH, JOHN W. NASH/MASH, WILLIAM NASH/MASH, and an elder CLAIBOURN NASH/MASH (who I believe is the namesake for my Great Grandfather Claibourn born 1835, Illinois, (son of "Unknown" Nash/Mash and Louvina). My Claibourn Nash can again be found in the 1860 US Census Record also with the family of Richard Pierce and wife Louvina, and their children. On March 11, 1870, Noble Twp., Richland County, Illinois, Claibourn Mash married Amanda Mash (as per Marriage Records they are listed as MASH). Amanda is the daughter of JOHN W. NASH/MASH and wife Hannah. Yes, I do believe that my Great Grandparents Claibourn and Amanda were actually first cousins, before their marriage in 1870. I have not been able to find JOHN W. NASH/MASH in Clay/Richland County, but I am sure that he must have been there for Amanda and Claibourn to meet and to marry there. I do know that JOHN W. NASH/MASH and family, as well as Claibourn and wife Amanda can be found in the 1870 US Census Records in Menard County, Illinois, in Tallula Township. JOHN W. NASH/MASH is listed as JOHN W. NANCE on that Census Record. As I said the family has been very hard to trace. The father of JOHN WILLIAM "SPLITFOOT" PATTERSON is ARMSTETEAD PATTERSON, and his mother is MARY "POLLY" MARTIN. Armstead Patterson was born 1783, and Mary "Polly" Martin born 1785. They had the following children: William H. Patterson born 1801 Peter Patterson born 1804 Nancy Patterson born 1808 Mary "Polly" Patterson born Dec 16, 1811 John William "Splitfoot" Patterson born about 1818 Martha Patterson born March 24, 1814 Elizabeth Patterson born March 11, 1816 I have an email in my records from a Patterson family member telling me why John ended up with the nickname of "Splitfoot", but I have everything packed for a move that I am making before the end of the month, and have no idea what box I have it in at the moment, lol. I will send you a copy once I have made my move and unpack again. I do have two marriages for John William "Splitfoot" Patterson. The first to MARGARET JANE TAYLOR, on May 14, 1839. They had the following children: Armstead Patterson born July 18, 1840 Mary C. Patterson born 1844 John Will Patterson born 1847 Nancy Patterson born 1848 Second marriage was to Elizabeth G. "Betsy" NASH/MASH (daughter of "UNKNOWN" NASH/MASH and LOUVINA - maiden name unknown). They had the following children: GillyAnn Patterson born July 4, 1856 Lavina Patterson born November 12, 1858 Bevly Patterson born 1861 (have seen this son listed as Beverly Patterson also) James W. Patterson born Bet. 1862 - 1863 Martha A. Patterson born April 1, 1866 Isabelle Patterson born 1867 Peter "Pete" Patterson born Nov. 1869-1872 Caroline "Carrie" Patterson born February 1871-1872 Margaret Patterson born 1879 GillyAnn was born in Noble Twp., Richland County, Illinois, and was raised by her Grandmother Louvina and husband Richard Pierce (reason as to why she was raised by them is unknown). The next four children were born in Kentucky, probably around Mercer County. The last four children, were born in Illinois, most likely Richland County. I have my family tree "The Webs We Weave" posted oon Tribal Pages. I am continually working on it. The website address is: http://www.tribalpages.com/tribes/jdwafford The Password needed to view my website is: Nash I am hoping to make a trip east in June, to visit family in Missouri, and tto further my NASH/MASH research in Missouri, Kansas, Illinois and Kentucky. I particulary need to do further research in Clay and Richland and Montgomery Counties, especially for LOUVINA's first husband "UNKNOWN" NASH/MASH, as I am sure that he must have died there, sometime between the years of 1838 when their daughter Mary was born and before April 17, 1847 when LOUVINA married RICHARD PIERCE in Noble, Richland County, Illinois. Please take a look at my website, and if there is any information that I can send you from there, let me know. Also, if there is any information that you can add, I would definitely appreciate it. We have done the NASH DNA Testing for the NASH Family Project. My brother Larry matched a 25 marker test with the Great Grandson of WILLIAM NASH of Richland County 1840s, into Montgomery County 1850. We currently have a Great Grandson of JOHN W. NASH testing for his line. We are trying to prove that these four lines are brothers, as we feel sure that they must be. We hope to get this test done before I make my trip east in June, as we feel sure that it will answer a lot of NASH family questions. Please stay in touch. Hope I have not confused you with this bit of information, lol. Joyce Nash - Wafford Kingsburg, CA | |
